the quick take

logan turner built splits run co on the unglamorous work training actually is, and on the miles he runs with his daughter nora.

logan turner didn't build splits run co for the finish line. he built it for everything that happens before it, the interval sessions nobody's watching, the long runs that grind you down before they build you up, the splits you track only because you want proof you're getting better. that's the whole premise the brand runs on, and it's also just how logan talks about running when he's not talking about the company at all.

logan is a father, an endurance athlete, and a builder, in that order, and he'll tell you running became more than exercise somewhere inside all those training blocks, until it turned into a lens for how he sees discipline and quiet effort generally. the miles you don't want to run are the ones that matter, in his framing, precisely because nobody else can see them. "you don't build endurance overnight," he says. "you build it mile by mile." it's a plain sentence, and it's also more or less the whole business plan.

the company itself didn't start as a company. three years before splits run co existed, logan was in a period of exploring coaching, helping people work through life challenges, and running alongside that, separately, was a much quieter itch to design apparel he actually wanted to wear. the first version of the hat wasn't built to sell. logan managed the whole thing himself, manufacturing, design, procurement, treating it as a personal item rather than a commercial one, until family and his own athletic goals made doing every part of that alone unsustainable. that tension, wanting to build something real while also actually training and actually parenting, runs through the whole story, and it's still the tension the company operates inside today.

the idea that became the indianapolis endurance cap came directly out of logan's own running. he'd noticed ciele's city-specific marathon hats and liked the concept, but nobody had made one for indianapolis, and after logan ran the indy monumental marathon himself, he decided the city deserved its own version. he formed the llc on his own couch and contracted a manufacturer to build a five-panel, camping-style cap with a paracord drawstring closure instead of a traditional snapback or plastic buckle. the paracord wasn't a style flourish first, it was a fix: logan chose it during sampling specifically because it eliminates the forehead pressure line and the buckle discomfort a lot of runners just accept, a problem that gets noticeably worse once you strap a headlamp over the top of the hat for an early start or a night finish. logan produced an initial run of fifty units, kept the barrier to entry low, and sold through the whole batch in about three months, one direct message at a time, to local runners who gave him real feedback on comfort and fit for intermediate head sizes. that early response is what convinced him the idea was bigger than his own hat collection.

the moment that actually built the community, though, came through connecting with tj dailey, who organizes both the full mo race 50k race and the backyard ultra, prairie on fire. logan produced fifty branded hats for the full mo start line, and what he saw there stuck with him: a full line of runners wearing the same cap at the start of a local race, a genuine visual community moment that no ad budget could have manufactured. that collaboration opened up new direct-to-consumer channels and charity bib partnerships logan hadn't had access to before, and it set the pattern for how he's grown the brand since, race by race, relationship by relationship, rather than chasing scale before the brand's actually ready for it. splits run co is supplying race day hats for every participant at the upcoming prairie on fire event, the same event that helped the brand find its footing in the first place.

running with nora is the deeper reason any of this matters to logan at all. nora, his daughter, was diagnosed with dup15q syndrome and autism, and tlogan says that diagnosis reshaped how he thinks about strength, perseverance, and presence. running became something the two of them could share through an adaptive stroller, and what started as a way for logan to keep training turned into a reminder of what endurance actually means, miles that were never about pace, only about showing up and pushing forward together. that idea shows up literally on the product: one of splits run co's colorways is purple, worked into a cement-style print on the side panel that echoes an air jordan 3 without touching the cap's fit, feel, or performance, and the color represents epilepsy, a cause that logan and the people around him carry personally. it's the same instinct running through everything he's built: put something that actually matters on the product, and make sure it still performs at mile twenty.

the product lineup has grown to eleven skus without drifting from that original indy identity. the indy hat is still the anchor, the bestseller is an all-black midnight colorway with white stitching, and seasonal colors extend the range on purpose, a bright yellow and a pink built with female run clubs in mind, including salt and spice in carmel, plus a green-and-brown trail design called earthrunner for the singletrack crowd. logan keeps some drops intentionally small, a camo hat limited to ten units, for example, to test real demand before committing to a bigger run and to keep the creative side of the brand sustainable next to a full-time career and raising a family. the plan going forward is to keep that direct-to-consumer side healthy for everyday runners while expanding into apparel partnerships that let other brands and events build their own gear without ever having to stand up a manufacturing process of their own, effectively turning logan's own hard-won production knowledge into something other small brands can lean on.

logan's calendar this fall is the clearest expression of what the brand is actually for. he and nora are running across the entire state of indiana, october 7th through the 13th, averaging a marathon a day for seven straight days, on a route built to intersect with chris jones's big BO event in reverse starting from indiana's northern tip. the year closes at the indy monumental half marathon, where logan and nora plan to pace a family member through their first half marathon, a full-circle moment for a brand that exists because logan once ran that same distance and decided indianapolis needed its own cap for it.

our take: splits run co holds together because logan turner never separated the brand from his own life, the coaching background, the miles with nora, the causes on the purple hat, the local collaborations built on actual relationships instead of ad spend. it's a company still small enough that every product carries something real, and that's exactly why it's worth featuring now, before it's not this small anymore. explore splits run co on the site, or go straight to the brand direct.
