hermanos koumori started in 2018 in mexico city, in a repurposed factory on the edge of the doctores neighborhood — a place that was once the epicenter of stolen auto parts and is now one of the most interesting design districts in latin america. alex leon and alex sandler met at an entrepreneurial event, leon brought the graphic sensibility, sandler the business instincts, and they went for it.
the early brand was more streetwear-adjacent. over seven years it has evolved into a performance-focused label with genuine technical credibility and a global following. the design language draws from aztec and mayan visual culture, science fiction, and the diversity of human experience — a fictional universe that shows up differently each season.
the product lineup includes performance apparel and the popular "post running high" seasonal program, which has become a cult event in the mexico city running scene and beyond. they've collaborated with adidas, awake, and new era. their biggest adidas collaboration drops in 2025.
our take: hermanos koumori is the international indie brand that most of the american running press is sleeping on. the design is genuinely unlike anything else in the market — rooted in a specific cultural tradition and executed with craft. we feature them because great running brands are being built outside the us and europe, and mexico city is one of the places it's happening.
