pynrs — pronounced "pioneers" — was founded in 2020 by sidney baptista, who grew up in dorchester, massachusetts, left a career at a big four accounting firm, and built a run crew because he couldn't find one that felt like home. the pioneers run crew became one of boston's most important running communities. pynrs is what happens when you build a brand from the community up rather than the marketing department down.
the technical gear is legitimately good. their humboldt singlet and columbia half tight aren't novelty pieces — they're competitive, capable, and thoughtfully constructed. recycled fabrics, inclusive sizing, and cuts that work for real bodies. the brand has a women's line that was built with the same care as the men's.
beyond apparel, baptista is building toward something he calls the pynrs network — a platform for shared ownership in the culture that communities like his help create. it's a bigger vision than most indie brands are thinking about.
our take: pynrs matters because the story is real. baptista didn't launch a brand to look cool — he launched it because the running industry wasn't building for the community he came from. that intention shows up in the gear. we feature them because representation in this space is overdue and because the product stands on its own.
