team runrun is a seattle coaching marketplace founded in 2017 by matt and julie urbanski. it connects runners with 379 human coaches working across every distance from a first 5k to a 200 mile finish. coaches price their own work, keep their own training philosophy, and take home nearly all of what they earn.
most platforms in this category are sprinting to replace the coach with software. team runrun went the other direction and built the business infrastructure that lets a good coach do the job properly, then stepped back out of the way. the margin is thin on purpose. more than 10,000 runners have come through since the marketplace opened in 2018, and the company has never taken a dollar of outside money.
the thing that won us over is what matt doesn't do. he never tried to franchise his own method. the vetting screens for whether someone can genuinely connect with a particular kind of runner, and the coaches get monthly calls where two dozen of them work through each other's hardest cases together. we sat down with matt for the full story of how it got built: team runrun brand story
